“Tram wagon class A12, ASEA Sweden 1924”
Motor Tram no 342 of type A12 was manufactured in 1924 by ASEA, Sweden, for Stockholms Spårvägar. No 342 was mainly in use on the Stockholm Tramway line 12 ”Nockebybanan” which until 1952 ran from Nockeby, Bromma to ”Tegelbacken”, central Stockholm, passing Stockholm City Hall. Today the tram No 342 is moved to Museispårvägen Malmköping and the about 9000 daily passengers on tramway line 12 are travelling between Nockeby and Alvik in newer wagons. The picture shows the tram No 342 in the early 1930s. It had no rear view mirrors, no flashers but definitely a switch iron and a convenient ski rack mounted on the front. TECHNICAL FACTS: Type A12 was the first well functioning bogie motor tram. Four axles and four electric engines, 4x50hp. Length 41’ 11.15”. Width 7’ 6.5”. Height 12’ 5.6”. Original weight 47 223 lb. Capacity 64 passengers.
